My Policy on Reviews

So as an indie author, or really as an author period. There is a lot you have to do in order to get the word out about your book. One of the ways you do that is with book reviews. There are literally hundreds of sites for paid book promotion, one of the services they might offer is to review your book. Here's the thing, how do you know it's a fair and honest review if you paid them to review it?

I will not, under any circumstance pay for a review of my book. I'll give you a free copy to review, I'll even do an interview with you about the book. But I will not pay for a review. I feel that in order to have a fair and honest review, there can't be the pressure to do a good review just because I paid you to review it. I know taking this stance may make it so it takes longer for me to get the word out about my book, it might even keep me from making the big bucks as a writer. But I feel that it's important to not have a bias or even a conflict of interests when it comes to reviews.

Besides I have a limited budget for promotional stuff. Okay, Okay, no budget for promotional stuff. I'm starting from square one, and I can't spend 300, 400, or even 600 bucks for someone to review my book. I could spend that money on Promoting my Facebook Page, or promotional tweets on Twitter. Or using Google's ad services for that matter. I'm more than happy to give out a free copy to someone that wants to read and review my book, I just won't pay them to do it. Everyone has bills to pay and mouths to feed, however I feel that a review site should have their revenue streams figured out so that they don't have to rely on people paying them to review books.

So that's all I have for today. I hope you all have an awesome day!
